The Novel Shop is a home design studio specializing in small space design solutions for “not-so-big” homes.

Beginning with a conversation about your style we are able to gain the best sense of the vision you have for your space.

Execution of that vision is then carried out. This style curation process is essential in our design approach. The result? A cohesive, uniquely defined, look curated by you! With a little guidance from Novel Shop Design, we will help you enrich your home with your personal aesthetic—it’s called design therapy (Yes, it’s a thing!). If you are motivated to seek professional help with your design dilemma, renovation, or home build, especially if it’s a small space, do not hesitate to get in touch! Helping our clients create spaces they never want to leave is our passion. We want you to have a beautiful place to flourish!

Our Services

Design Consultation

90-minute design consultations including a personal style curation assessment and an idea board for your space. The consultation may also be done virtually. Consider this if you need guidance with one of the rooms in your home or office building.

Cabinet Refinishing

Kitchen or bath cabinet refinishing. This service begins with a personal style curation assessment and includes an idea board. Add a backsplash, new countertops, new flooring, and even a board and batten or shiplap detail to an island or peninsula to top off your new look!

Project Drawings

Small home design including basic CAD draft floor plans + interior and exterior renderings and a 3D digital model of your home. This is for any DIY home renovation project warrior, you snowbirds moving south looking to build your retirement or vacation home, or basically, anyone who needs a tangible vision to cast to their builder or architect. Designing a home from scratch can be hard. Consider this your first step to realizing your dream space.

About the blog

Small spaces can be tricky, come here whenever you need some help deciding what to do. Inspiration abounds!

Nook & Cranny is our small space design blog where you will find practical design suggestions that adhere to the principles of design: form, shape, color, texture, light, proportion, scale, balance, harmony, unity & variety, rhythm, and emphasis. Did I mention our affinity for small spaces? This blog is like a wee-little home design advice column—emphasis on little, because let’s face it there are a TON of interior design blogs out there (not to mention Pinterest, which is arguably the best thing for DIY designers since the invention of the whole internet.) Our goal is to become your go-to spot for small space design and room styling ideas.

Starting a business in an industry where there are already so many talented players is NUTS! It is quite risky, in my opinion, and did I mention that I absolutely THRIVE working for great bosses? So working for myself would be way out of my comfort zone. However, after a couple of years of prayer and TONS of encouragement from my family, friends, and mentors, plus the squeeze of the covid 19 situation, I began.

There are two principal reasons I began this business that I’d like to share with you. The first is that I’ve always had a ripening passion to show the girls I’ve mentored over the years that they too can accomplish their goals. They can actually realize whatever they set their minds to, I am extremely mindful of this. I want my mentees to witness that following God’s lead in their lives will take them through the ups & downs of a truly successful, satisfying life. Everyone needs an example to follow. It looks like I’m stepping further into the role of becoming one.

The second is that I simply LOVE this stuff! I believe, quite emphatically, that I design to thrive and it is what I was born to do. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in interior design from East Carolina University, and it was NOT a game. It was WORK! Werrrrrrk. Believe me. However, I’m eternally grateful for the excellent education and real-life application I received from my professors (even though they made us write all those essays on design theory and the history of the chair, and so on). Let it be said, from my own pen, that it is because of this solid design foundation I received from my professors that I am able to do what I do. I am deeply grateful.

❤️ Agapé

Draw the art you want to see, start the business you want to run, play the music you want to hear, write the books you want to read, build the products you want to use—do the work you want to see done.
